Criticism of fireworks on the beach
But while fireworks on the beach can undoubtedly be beautiful and impressive, there is also justified criticism of fireworks, to which we also want to draw attention for the sake of completeness:
1. pollution: fireworks can release significant amounts of pollutants, including carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter, and toxic heavy metals such as lead and barium. These pollutants can contaminate air quality as well as water and soil, and can have long-term effects on human and animal health.
2. noise pollution: Fireworks often produce very loud noises that can be a nuisance not only to humans, but also to animals such as dogs and birds. Especially for animals with sensitive hearing, such as dogs or horses, the popping and hissing of fireworks can be very stressful.
3. Accidents: Fireworks can be very dangerous if not handled properly. There are many cases of people injured or fires caused by improperly set off fireworks.
4. animal cruelty: fireworks can also pose a danger to animals. Dogs and cats can be frightened by the noise and brightness of the explosions, which can cause unusual behavior and anxiety. In addition, fireworks can disturb wildlife in the area and affect their behavior.
The alternative to beach fireworks - laser shows
Due to these criticisms, fireworks events are now no longer held in many places. A more environmentally friendly alternative is therefore laser shows or light installations. For example, I have found suitable laser or light events on the beach here:
March 25, 2023 Zingst, Light Dance of the Elements.
July 26, 2023 Grömitz, Grömitzer summer nights
September 14-16, 2023 Travemünde, Travemünder Lichterzauber
